Deccan Pumps was founded in 1981
by Shri Arumugam P., then a 21-year-old entrepreneur, along with his uncle, the
late Shri K.K. Veluchamy, under the name Arvee Corporation—derived from the
initials of its founders, ARumugam and VEluchamy. While one brought deep
expertise in product development, the other had a strong command over people,
manufacturing, and sales. Together, they transformed a modest trading operation
into a full-fledged pump manufacturing company within the same year, launching
it under the brand and trade name Deccan Pumps.
The company is widely recognized for pioneering Openwell Sump Submersible Pumps in India and was the first in the country to receive BIS certification in this category. Over the years, Deccan has been honoured with six national awards, including the prestigious “Udyog Patra” from the Honourable President of India, recognizing its contribution to Indian industry and entrepreneurship.
Beyond business, Shri Arumugam P.
has also founded a not-for-profit engineering college and the Darbari Elders’
Home, reflecting the family’s deep-rooted values in education, community
welfare, and inclusive development. Under the stewardship of the Arumugam
Family, DPPL continues to be a strong, sustainable family business—committed to
innovation, integrity, and impact.
The Arumugam Family, through
Deccan Pumps Pvt. Ltd. (DPPL), strategically acquired all intellectual
property, exclusive ownership rights, manufacturing facilities, and associated
assets for Openwell and Surface Pumps from Deccan Industries. Since then, DPPL
has significantly expanded its infrastructure and technological capabilities to
serve the agricultural, domestic, and public utility sectors.
Today, Deccan Pumps Pvt. Ltd. (DPPL)
operates two advanced manufacturing facilities and a technology centre, all
headquartered in Coimbatore. The company has emerged as a global leader in
vertical Openwell Sump technology.
